Year 2s Visit Botanical Gardens!!

This year the awesome year 2 classes were learning about ‘Our world our environment’ in science. As the year 2 classes were so exited they all agreed to a trip to the botanical gardens . On the 1st of February 2013.

Doing this activity it would give the year two classes a taste of their local environment. On their exiting adventure they were able to make and see a worm hotel, by doing this the year twos found out how worms help the earth and what they do.
They also saw a life cycle of  frogs and toads and learn a lot about how they grow and the changes that they see.

After the worms and frogs they soon found out about leaves and how they make food and oxygen; this was a relaxing activity after all their hard work on their worm hotel. With having now known the facts of leaves they had some real fun with making a leaf slide!

After their adventurous but tiring day they all came back to SCIPS with a jolly smile on their faces and have lots to tell of their adventure to their family . . . . . . . . . . . .                   WELL DONE YEAR 2 ! ! !

After last year’s
Success in the FOBISSEA Games in
Beijing the training squad are at it again for this year’s competition hosted by none other than St.Christopher’s!

The amount of people trying out this year is unbelievable with a total of 48 kids. They have been attending FOBISSEA ASA 4 days per week and the amount of dedication to these training activities is really impressive. In total there will be 8 schools competing and we hope that SCIPS will prevail.

According to lovely miss Sarah
“The kids are doing great! They just need to push and push until selection day. GOOD LUCK!”
Also, we asked members of the training squad for their opinion.
- “Hard but certainly worth it” -Caitlin Treble and Su-lun(y6kb)
- “Training is really really fun!” –Oscar (3kh)
- “ Fobissea training is hard but also fun.” –Alys Dunne (5hb)

In behalf of the whole school we wish the best of luck for that are trying out.

Year 2s Visit the Butterfly Farm!!

Year 2 Butterfly Farm Trip

The Awesome year 2 classes enjoyed themselves very much as they went on an amazing trip to the butterfly farm. Whilst there, the children were challenged to face their fears...well … scary bugs! Some children were so brave that they held a stick insect and put their hands in a mysterious box and guess what insects were inside. Everyone was a super stars, they all were behaved even the butterflies liked them!  But the main surprise was when they had to hold a giant … centipede … even Mrs. Woodhams was scared. After a while, well after all the animals and insects the children were tested on all they knew about the things they saw; and one of the winners were … Tahnee Robertson year 2HW. Well done Tahnee! After a tiring day at the Butterfly farm the year 2 children returned to school for lunch. Well done Year 2!

Here are some things that the children liked:

Tahnee “ I loved holding the stick insects it was fun and I loved to put my hand inside the secret box!!”

Fobissea Maths Challenge 2013 - Congratulations!!!

FOBISSEA Maths Challenge 2013

The city of Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam is filled with many sights and wonders to behold. The food, the culture is truly amazing. It also turned out that it was the host of this year’s edition of the FOBISSEA Maths Challenge. St. Christopher’s chose a team of 4 to represent the school in the competition, namely Adam Pinsler (6CR), Tyler Chan (6JA), Yusuke Konno (6KB) and Joshua Pasuquin (Also 6KB). The team competed against 24 other schools in the region, to come out in 9th place overall. The team departed on Thursday March 7 to Vietnam, where for 2 days, they competed. There was the Team Challenge and the Complete Team Challenge on the first day. Along with that, there were sightseeing tours and fantastic foods to top off the day. The pressure ramped up on the second day, where the individual, computer and written challenges took place. With even more exploring and tasting, the awards ceremony came and the SCIPS team won 9th place (Out of 25). The individual results came and went like this:
Adam: 27th/100
Tyler: 25th/100
Joshua: 35th/100
Yusuke: 5th/100

Finally the team arrived back in time for the weekend. (Fun Fact: One of the people in the team also went to PPAC, which turned out to be the week after the team returned.
